RYAN JR 40 - 50 watt 2 Channel Amplifier
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.9 лет назад
My latest project is a two channel 50 Watt rocker. Dovetailed walnut cabinet and matching speaker cabinet. Channel 1 is a clean channel with plenty of headroom and tight bass control. It has bright, mid shift and rotary contour switches... to tailor your amp to your guitars. Channel 2 is a versatile overdrive channel channel based on a Dumble ODS with a few additions to make it more versatile. ...
Blues Reverb 60

Diary of a Blues Reverb 60 build. Thanks to the incredible playing of James Mulvaney and the fantastic recordings by Declan Lonergan of Bluebird Studios, Straffan. This amplifier is the result of much input from my existing customers and suggestions from many of my musician friends and acquaintances. Thank you for your patience and efforts. Cyril
Great work sir. I thought mine was 1964 but the vents are different. Does this one have the 330K resistors feeding the volume pots?
Excellent guitar playing and tone James 👌
0:44 "doesn't look too bad" lmao
I got some issues here: original problem was bad rectifier tube and fuse. Replaced All tubes and fuse, not its has this crazy sound. Could you give me advise? Here is video: ruclips.net/video/eHGmKMvTxB4/видео.html
I have been gifted an AC30H prototype in crusty condition, what should I do with it. It looks totally original.
What a great one-stop-shop for restoration.
WwoowW Man great tones beautiful tweed sound
Hello Cyril. I have a 63 ac30 copper top. What cloth did you use please as I'm struggling to find a reasonable replacement. Thank you. Great video's by the way 👍
Whose kit?
very nice sound.
How did you clean the chassis without removing the coating and rust proofing?
I used a nylon bristle rotary brush in a Dremel tool. Took off the corrosion without damaging the remaining coating.
Sorry but I’ve no experience of that model.
Hi, Do you have any knowledge of what type of reverb tank was fitted into the Birch-Stolec 1970 model, please? It looks like the amp has never been fitted with a reverb tank but is wired for one. It must be a high impedance reverb as its driven direct from the anode of an ECC83 via a 2n2 cap. Any information you may have will be greatly appreciated. Regards Geoff
You just don’t retolex an old beauty
Once you’ve determined the condition I would have blown the chassis out with compressed air, bathed the chassis with simple green and let it soak for an hour. Then I’d used distilled water and high pressure washing off the simple green removing all dirt and grime, once clean use compressed air and blow out all water. Once you get as much water as possible I’d place the unit in my oven at about160 degrees for 24 hours to assure any moisture is out of coils and transformers. At that point hit all pots with tuner cleaner, begin chassis restoration with an absolutely clean chassis..
A basic clean would be a good start.
Great job on the amp.The band was shitte.
Pretty interesting video. Background music is totally unnecessary which ironically features a decidedly unremarkable guitar tone and forgettable playing.
True craftsman excellent
CYRIL RYAN, Why does the AC ripple "INCREASE" when the B+ voltage is increased or when the Power tubes draw more current from the power supply? I would think the AC ripple would decrease not increase it doesn't make sense can you explain it?
Man that would be killer to leave the exterior just as it is but obviously replace all the internals so it runs like a raped ape.
Great job sir!
You didn't appertains to clean the rust on the inside of the speaker before re-coning? How did you get the chassis so clean? Great restoration anyway! Cheers.
Water damage to the cabinet....has it been in a flood or was it stored in the basement and subjected to a water leak?
I believe that this Vox was stored in a damp shed for years before it was 'found'
very good
The owner should be shot for letting it get like that in the first place. Does he like Simon Cowell's music or something?
How did the owner ever let it get like that?
Probably water damaged before they bought it.....AC30's are always worth restoring.
@@bigcatdaddy76016 Yessir. I'd be very happy to own this amp, even before restoration.
Great informative video, that shows a master at work. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
My 65 and a friend's 63 AC-15 have gold bulldog speakers, not the blue ones. Good video.
They have to be modern replacements. The old ones were blue...later ones silver.
Gold Bulldogs sound like Thomas Organ Vox. I think they were Oxford speakers.
Hi, hoping either yourself or the community here can help me please. I have just aquired an old AC30 chassis (an obscure model I think it's the AC30TBR 1007 model, from 1989 Rose Morris period) but I need to get speakers for it. Now the schematic I found which I think is correct suggests the output transformer accepts either 4 or 8 ohm impedance speaker load. However this goes against every other AC30 I have seen which would be either 8 or 16 ohm load. I am wondering if anyone (or yourselves) can tell me if it is safe to put a 16 ohm speaker load as normal with AC30) on such an O/T - or is there a way to tell from the transformer (no label) or from the wiring etc if I can tell what the actual output impedance is? Any help or advice appreciated, thanks!!
On the case of the output transformer, I would have re-wound the original personally..
Original hasn't got a standby switch, my CC2X hasn't either! It does have a "destroy your rectifier tube" switch. I prefer not to use it all that much. :)
What a rewarding occupation.
Awesome work!
I have a 1963 Ac30 that needs a grill screen replacement. How does the speaker baffle come out ? Do you take it out through the back? Is it then just stapled on the baffle sides?
It should come out of the front. It's screwed into pine strips from behind.
Very nice. I wonder how the strat would sound with compressor - Knopfler setting. How was the constructing - any problems?
Good job Too bad re-issue grill cloth in not quite like the original. Thought some company could accurately reproduce it but no one has to date. I have a VOX amp with original cloth and the new stuff falls a little short...unfortunately.
very impressive fixed what most would trash looked great
Coool...
For what this is going to cost, I would think he could just buy an AC-30 in way better condition.
The new ones don't sound the same, and most don't have tube rectifiers.
It cost 1/2 of th eprice that it sold for a week or so ago. The amp was of sentimental value to the owner.
I had a Vox AC30 in the mid 60's second hand £30. New price around £120 early to mid 60's.
Hey Cyril, how much did that restoration cost?
Hi. Thanks for your enquiry. Unfortunately Cyril now lives in the Barbados. We don't have a number for him. Tanks.
Well...I don't live in Barbados....the restoration cost was €1100.
Good video! Thanks! Who makes proper reconing kits for the speakers for AC30? I have a couple of grey Jennings 12" that needs repair :-)
I use kits supplied by Celestion.
As a work of love this is great to see. Unfortunately there may be many AC30s in a similar state out there beyond economical repair. As a former repair man the amount of work involved would not be commercially viable.
Loved the video. Very interesting. What tubes did you put back in it?
Hi I'm trying to repair a AC30 reissue from a friend. It's the CC1 from 2000's. At first sight looks good: Power Led is getting current, Standby Led is not. All tubes are glowing (EL84s good, preamp 12AX7s slight glowing, GZ34 glowing). No burnt stuff on boards. Here's what I've done so far: 1º I checked AC input fuse, standby fuse, 2 fuses on power transformer secondary and a resistor fuse. All OK. 2º Plugged off all tubes. I did continuity tests on them based on their datasheets, they all seem good. 3º Checked voltages on secondary: 356Vac (pin6 rectifier tube input to trafo sec central tap), 293Vac (pin4 rec tube input to trafo sec central tap), 5.9Vac, 6.45Vac, 24.9Vac. 4º Plugged on the GZ34. Checked voltage on output (pins 2 to 8). Getting no DC rectified voltage and 5Vac.Could it be the GZ34 the one that it's broken, even glowing and with the continuity test OK? Appearance looks good, it glows bright. If I shake it I get a small clinging. I'd rather not spend money stupidly since I have no idea how to fix amps. I've got basic electronic knowledge but I'm a total newbie on this stuff. I appreciate every help :)
I'm seeing now it's not a GZ34, It's a Sovtek 5AR4 SOV. Couldn't see it properly because the ink is almost faded but watching at the parts list it makes perfect sense
Lots of fancy equipment, but no variac?
Yes I do have a variac...just out of the shot.
amazing skills!
really enjoyed watching this!
Does anybody can ask on my question? if I will install Celestion Blue Alnico into ac30cc2 instead of regular vox speakers, will it give me 100% the same sound like on ac30cc2x or ac30c2x ?
Hi. Sorry, I'm sure you don't care anymore, but YES IT WILL. I did just that many years ago. A decade now.. I bought a CC2 and some UK Alnico Blue speaker and put them in it. A decade of gigging later, it is still my #1 amp. It absolutely destroys all challengers tbh. The only amp I've heard that made me even consider a change was a 59 Bassman ..
